And your choices are ...

In the next election, would you vote for:

1.) Candidate A, the Republican.

2.) Candidate B, the Democrat.

3.) Candidate C, the Libertarian.

4.) Candidate D, the Green Party.

5.) None of the Above.

Oops. Can't mark "None of the Above" in the race for Tennessee governor. Or U.S. senator.

David "None of the Above" Gatchell is running for both offices. But a judge ruled last week that his middle name -- it's his legal middle name, by the way -- would confuse or mislead the electorate if listed on the Nov. 2 ballot, the Nashville Tennessean reported.

Plenty of voters find themselves more misled by candidates they don't know. They usually skip those races. Or don't even bother to vote.

There's actually a NOTA movement aimed at getting "None of the Above" as a legitimate ballot choice, according to www.nota.org. So far, only Nevada includes it in statewide races. But it's nonbinding, so NOTA can't be declared a winner.

In the meantime, voters whose reaction to the party non-choices is "no" and ... well, you know ... have a last-ditch option: Write in a write-in.
