CHIEF MINISTER POLL RESULT
NONE of the candidates for chief minister should be elected, according to an
online poll.
The iomtoday.co.im poll attracted 5,443 votes and the majority, 41 per cent,
or 2,259 votes, went to the option for none of the candidates.
Health Minister Steve Rodan, Home Affairs Minister John Shimmin and Michael
MHK David Cannan are competing for the role as leader of the next
administration.
The poll ran from last Tuesday until Monday. While Mr Rodan and Mr Shimmin
initially vied for the lead, the 'none of the above' option was always ahead.
A rally by Mr Cannan in the final days of the poll saw him secure a strong
first place among the candidates with 37 per cent, or 2,056 votes. Mr Shimmin
was behind him with a 12 per cent share, or 664 votes, and Mr Rodan was in
last place with 8 per cent, or 464 votes.
However, the public has no say in who becomes chief minister, and Tynwald
members will vote today (Tuesday).
If no one attracts the necessary 16 votes, a second round of voting could be
held with just the top two on
the ballot paper. If there still isn't a clear winner a call could be made for
fresh nominations.
